Everyone’s worst nightmare has been fully realized:
DOJ Approves Merger of Ticketmaster, Live Nation
Great. Just when you thought Ticketmaster should have LESS power, two of North America’s biggest live-music powerhouses have combined — creating an *even more* powerful industry conglomerate. Expect more service fees on your tickets! Really, who is going to keep this company in check? We all know that Ticketmaster lacks transparency, so why would they be allowed to get in bed with one of the biggest concert promotion companies? How is that going to benefit the consumer?
Then again, maybe Live Nation will turn the TM legacy around on its head, making it more of a fan-friendly ticketing agency. Imagine: going to buy $20 tickets and NOT having them end up $40 tickets at check-out time! That would be quite the day indeed…
