The Reverb, Kathedral Closing Their Doors

by gvb on December 7, 2009

This article was a big piece of news this past weekend:

Queen Street West to lose another music venue.

If you live in Toronto, have been here, or hold the city close to your heart…then this is big news. The Reverb, especially, has been a big fixture on the Toronto live music scene for many, many years. That being said, I have only been to this set of venues only a handful of times over the past few years. I haven’t been to The Reverb in well over two years. Having said that, I only found myself at The Kathedral out of duty or allegiance to friends. These were some of my least favourite venues in the city. The sound was always terrible, the lighting was virtually non-existant and the atmosphere was dreadful.

Thus, I really want to say “Good riddance!” to them, but perhaps the loss of a few of the city’s venues will have untold repercussions on the scene. Who knows what will happen. Either way, I’m sure our city will adapt.
